Aizawl Airport AJL
Aizawl airport is also known as Lengpui airport and is located 32km from the city of Aizawl in the state of Mizoram, India. It’s the second largest airport in North East India, which was inaugurated in 1998. It’s the first airport in India that was built by the state government.
The airport has a single asphalt surfaced runway, directed at 17/35 and 8,200ft long. Aizawl airport is a public airport and is managed by Airport Authority of India. Aizawl airport's IATA code is AJL, and ICAO code is VEAZ. The airport has been upgraded with Instrument Landing System. This was installed because the runway is 'table top', which creates an optical illusion when pilots make a visual approach for landing.
The airport currently handles only domestic flights, and has a single terminal to handle arrivals and departures. The airport is capable of handling medium range commercial aircrafts.
