Chandigarh Airport IXC
Chandigarh Airport is located 12 Km from the Interstate Bus Terminus in the Indian State of Chandigarh. This is a domestic airport, and since there is an international airport located in Chandigarh also, it was decided to merge the services of this airport with the international airport in order to give it IXC, an international status.
Since plans are to change it in to an international airport, the terminal is under renovation for bringing it up to the international standards. Currently, the terminal contains facilities such restaurants, snack bars, comfortable lounges, televisions at terminals, gift shops, and floral shops delivering India vide. Wi-Fi facilities are also available in the terminal.
The renovation that is currently under process at the airport consists of upgrading the domestic terminal, making three link taxiways, a cargo complex and parallel taxi tracks. Moreover, the 2,744 metres long runway is also undergoing the phase of extension. The renovated terminal will be made up of glass and steel, and it would be equipped with 4 boarding bridges. There is also another extension in process to accommodate wide bodied jet aircrafts.
Currently, five airlines are operating at Chandigarh Airport. These are Go Air, Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Jet Lite, and Kingfisher Airlines. All these airlines travel to and from the major cities of India such as Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jaipur, and also to the areas of Jammu and Srinagar.
Pre-paid taxi service is available, for which you will have to get your coupon at the airport. Outside the airport, radio cabs and radio auto rickshaws are easily available. The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking also operates a public bus. Volvo buses also operate at selected times at the airport. If you want to reach to any of the neighbourhood cities of Chandigarh, where flights do not go directly, you can go to the railway station via either of the above mentioned transport systems.
