Kingfisher Airline Information

Kingfisher Airlines is owned by Kingfisher Airlines Limited, an air carrier business corporation based in Mumbai, India under the banner of United Breweries Group. Kingfisher Airlines holds India’s second largest share in the country’s domestic air travel market, and the fifth largest market share in the Indian airline industry.

Founded in 2003, it launched operations in May 2009 with an initial fleet of four brand new Airbus A320-200s flying from Mumbai to Delhi. International operations began in September 2008 from Bengaluru to London.

Kingfisher Airlines operates from its main base at the Begaluru International Airport in Bangalore, while flying from secondary hubs at Chhaptrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, and the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Kingfisher Airlines holds the distinction of being the first Indian airline to offer in-flight entertainment systems on all its seats, including those on domestic flights. It offers 120 daily flights which include both regional and long-haul international routes, and in May 2009, carried a record of over 1 million passengers, grabbing the highest market share in the Indian airline industry. It currently flies to 25 domestic destinations across the country, but has suspended its international routes effective April 2012 due to financial and operational woes. However, it has disclosed plans to launch long-haul international destinations to cities in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania with the delivery of its new aircraft on order.

Along with other major and full-service airlines like Cathay Pacific, Asiana Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways, Kingfisher Airlines once held a 5-star rating bestowed by Skytrax in 2011.

Kingfisher Airlines also has its own cargo subsidiary, Kingfisher Xpress, a door-to-door parcel delivery service, India’s only same-day delivery service by air. The carrier also operates Kingfisher Elite, a special charter service operating a fleet of Eurocopter EC155 business jets, Airbus 321s, Airbus 320s, Airbus 319s, ATR 72-500s, and ATR 42-500s with access to over 200 airstrips across India.
