Rajkot Airport RAJ
Rajkot airport (Civil) is an important airport of India, which is situated a few kilometres away from Gujrat, India. It has two ramps with terminal capacity of 250 for B-737. It is connected to all the other airports of India with different airlines. The airport is situated 440 ft above sea level. The airport is owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Domestic flights operate at this airport throughout the year.
At present, Rajkot Municipal Corporation and Urban Development authority are planning to upgrade and broaden the runway of the airport, ranging from 5400 ft to 6000 ft. By doing this extension, more flights would be received from all across India.
The airport is gaining more attention because of the housing schemes and business being established in Rajkot. More upgrading and construction of the airport is in progress. Since the runway is 5400 ft at present, apron is not sufficient to accommodate landing of large airplanes, like A320 and Boeing.
In order to assure high safety, the apron should be 6000 ft; that is why the runway was widened. It has been suggested by the Civil Aviation minister to construct a new airport building, which should be built on an area of 500 acres, on Rajkot-Gondal-Jamnagar, which is 10 kilometres from Gujrat.
Every week, 2919 passenger fly from Rajkot airport. Among them, the shortest flight is of 260 miles, with 136 seats; the largest flight can carry 145 seats. 21 flights depart from this airport every week.
